Our Children Deserve Better

In 28 years as a Catholic teacher, I've seen our schools work with ever-dwindling resources, while education has been displaced by social programming.

If elected, I promise to:

  • Listen to you, my constituents, with regular polls to get your opinion
  • Work to restore educational standards so our children can succeed
  • Uphold Catholic values, and instill those in our children

"The soul grows by learning."

St. Augustine

Be Heard

If elected, I will be putting up regular polls whenever the board is making important decisions affecting our children and our schools. If you want to be heard, register here for my email list.

I believe in democracy: rule by the majority. Regardless of my personal opinions on any issues affecting our schools, you have my pledge that I will vote for the majority opinion.

Representing the will of Catholic School supporters is what you are electing me to do.

About Me

Valerie Dove (née Albinati)

I’ve been a teacher in our Catholic schools for 30 years, a wife of 28 years, and mother of two grown children who attended Calgary Catholic schools as well as being an active volunteer.  Born in Calgary, I am proud of my Irish, French Canadian and Swiss heritage. Growing up on a small Charolais cattle ranch on 85th Street (before it was a subdivision), I first attended St. Michael School but completed my schooling at Springbank.  I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Canadian History) from the University of Calgary and completed a Bachelor of Education (Secondary Social Studies) from the University of Alberta with additional studies in Religious Education from Newman Theological College. For the last thirty years, I have pursued my chosen vocation with Calgary Catholic Schoolboard, teaching in many of the schools within Wards 6 and 8.  My greatest joy comes from being in the classroom but I see running for Separate School Trustee as a unique opportunity to make a greater difference in the lives of students.

I have always striven to model active citizenship. In college, I served on the University of Calgary Catholic Community parish council as well as travelling to Guayaquil, Ecuador as part of a medical/dental missionary team. My current volunteer work encompasses local theatre, the Calgary Folk Festival, the Calgary Stampede and Holy Name Parish. My daughter and I sing in an Irish choir, performing at events, nursing homes, churches and festivals. Together, my family competed as members of the Provincial Mixed Martial Arts Association; I completed my First-Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate at the age of fifty. I love gardening, hiking and the creative arts.

As a cancer survivor and the wife of a fellow cancer survivor, I am committed to making each day count out of gratitude for God’s goodness and mercy. Freedom of speech, seeking excellence and accepting personal responsibility; these are the core values that I humbly pursue in my daily life. I hope to share these perspectives in guiding the direction of the Calgary Catholic School District, and representing you, the constituents, to make a better future for our children together.
